Mass wedding celebrates couples in Gaza with UAE support
The ceremony took place amid the rubble of destroyed buildings in the Hamad residential area and was organized under the UAE’s humanitarian initiative “Gallant Knight 3,” according to reports. A wedding stage named “Thawb al-Farah” (“Gown of Joy”) symbolized the determination to pursue life despite the destruction wrought by ongoing conflict.
Palestinian flags, flowers, and traditional music adorned the venue as families and community leaders gathered to witness the couples’ procession. The organizers said the couples had been chosen through a lottery from roughly 2,651 applicants across the enclave.
The “Gallant Knight 3” campaign, launched on Nov. 5, 2023, under the guidance of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, aims to deliver food and medical assistance to Gaza’s most affected communities.
Although a ceasefire came into effect on Oct. 10, reports indicate that Israeli forces continued attacks outside designated withdrawal zones, resulting in casualties and destruction. Since October 2023, over 70,000 people—mostly women and children—have reportedly been killed in Gaza, with more than 171,000 injured, leaving large parts of the enclave in ruins.
